Rhiannon Smith

Rhiannon started rowing aged 11 with Headington School Boat Club Oxford where she learned to row and scull, securing two national medals. After arriving at Newnham, she stroked W2 to blades in her first Lents (2017). She was Lower Boats Captain and Water Safety and Equipments Officer in 2017-18, whilst also rowing in the 1st VIII as they continued their climb up the bumps charts. In 2018-19, Rhiannon and Katie Jones captained Newnham to their remarkable double headship. In Mays 2019, Rhiannon also coxed Lucy Cavendish W2 to blades, becoming the first and only person (as far as we can tell) to achieve two blades, one coxing and one rowing in one bumps campaign. She then coxed Rob Roy W1 and St Radegund M2 in Town Bumps 2019, picking up another blade with Radegund, taking home a total of 5 blades during her three years. She continued to row with NCBC until the 2022-23 year, where she now coaches for NCBC (and still rows with 99s!)
