Emma Brightman

Emma is a 4th year Earth Scientist who joined NCBC in 2019. After rowing in the 1st Novice VIII, she was completely hooked and even began to embrace the early starts. That Lent, she rowed as stroke in the 3rd VIII and completed her first set of bumps. Even though this left her bumps record at down 2, she celebrated at BCD as if she won headship and it was then inevitable that she became NCBC Social Sec in 2020-2021!

Unfortunately, COVID-19 meant that in her second year, many races were virtual rowing-turned-running events, including the Lockdown Regatta and Virtual Bumps. In Easter, when NCBC were able to get back on the water, she competed in Radegund Mile and June Eights Regatta in the 1st VIII. She took on the role of Water Safety and Equipment Officer in 2021-2022.

The last year has been full of much more racing – winning Winter Head, Fairbairns, headship in Lent Bumps, Champs VIII and Nines Regatta and competing in WEHoRR! She has loved being part of the supportive NCBC community and although the last year won’t be an easy one to live up to, she is excited to be one of the Captains for 2022-2023!
